A mock cover design for American Illustration 40.

The concept for this design is grounded in the human senses and the process of art-making. The illustration speak to the fact that despite being a visual artform, there are so much about a piece of artwork that the viewer does not get to see. They are presented with the final, polished product, while most of the process, the thinking, the labour, are hidden in the shadow. The audiences are in a gallery setting, looking at an abstract sculptor, while an artist is hidden in the shadow, polishing and finishing the artwork.
